A basque, Juan Echegaray, a pioneer in the handmade manufacture of jute-soled canvas footwear, and a scotsman, Robert Fraser, a member of a family engaged in the production of textiles and machinery, start working together. They manufacture the already traditional alpargatas. That product, later, would give our Company its name. |

Sociedad Anónima Fábrica Argentina de Alpargatas, is established. |

Operations are expanded to Uruguay. |

Alpargatas starts its textile operations, introducing the first canvas yarns in Argentina. |

The 1,585 square meters Footwear Plant, manufacturer of shoe uppers, is opened in the San Luis province.

1984 The Santa Rosa Plant, engaged in the manufacture of PVC injected soles (14,000 square meters), is opened in the La Pampa province. |
1987-1998 Operation of the Nike footwear licensed trademark in Argentina and Uruguay. In 1989 Alpargatas wins Nike's Best Licensee of the Year Award.
